What is Notepad? :-
Notepad
is a text editor program that is included in every version of Windows. We use
Notepad to create new files in Windows. It helps the user to open, read and
create simple text files. Save the text file prepared in Notepad with .txt or
.text extension. We can also open any other program file in Notepad. The size
of the file opened in Notepad should be 64 KB. Notepad was created by Richard
Brodie.
How to open Notepad? -
There are several ways to open Notepad in Windows.
First: -
v First of all, click on Start button.
v Click on All Programs.
v Go to Accessories.
v Click on Notepad here.
v Notepad will open.
Second: -
v Open the Run command box by pressing the windows + R buttons from the keyboard.
v Here, type Notepad and then click OK.
v Notepad will open.
Third: -
v Go to the Windows search bar, and type Notepad here.
v You will see Notepad in the search list.
v Click on it.
v Notepad will open.
Title bar: - The
green bar at the top of Notepad is called Title bar. On which the name of the
file is shown. By default, it shows its name as untitled - Notepad.
Program window control: -
This is on the right side of the title bar. In which there are Minimize,
Maximize / Restore and Close buttons. With the help of which notepad is
minimized or closed.
Menu bar: -
Menu bar is below the title bar. Notepad's menu bar in Windows 7 has 5 menus.
File, Edit, Format, View, and Help, which contain menu-related commands.
Scroll bar: -
These are like sliders on the right side of the Notepad window and on the
bottom. Whose job is to scroll the big file up-down or left-right.
Text Area: -
This is the largest part of the middle. Where we do text related work.
Instruction Point: -
This is a small line blinking in the text area. Which is also called Cursor.
This lets us know where to write the next text.
Status bar: -
It is below the working area. Where we see the current status of the test (line
number, column number).
File Menu: -
There are seven commands under the File Menu. New, Open, Save, Save As, Page
setup, print, Exit.
New: -
You can create a new file by using the new command.
Open: -
With the Open commend, you can open the already created file.
Save: -
We save the notepad file in our computer through Save Commend.
Save As: -
With the Save As command, you can create a new copy file by saving the already
created file in the same place with a different name or in any other place with
the same name.
Page setup: -
You can setup page size and margin of notepad file by using page setup command.
Print: -
Print command is used to print out the file created by you.
Exit: -
Using this option you can now close Notepad.
Edit Menu: -
There are 11 commands under the Edit menu. Undo, cut, copy, paste, delete,
find, find next, Replace, Goto, Select all, Time/Date.
Cut: -
Cut command is used to cut the selected text.
Copy: -
Copy command is used to copy the selected text. The main difference between cut
and copy, when we paste to another place by cutting, then the cut text
disappears from the old place, but on copying, your text remains in the old
place, where you paste. He comes there too.
Paste: -
Paste command is used to paste cut or copied text.
Delete: -
Delete command is used to delete the selected data.
Find: -
Through the Find command, you can search any data from Notepad.
Find next: -
Find next command is used to search more than one data.
Replace: -
Using Replace command, you can write another text in place of any text.
Goto: -
By this command you can move directly on any line in notepad.
Select All:
- Select All command is used to select the entire text at once.
Time / Date: -
By this command, you can insert Date / Time in Notepad.
Format menu: - Two commands come under this menu.
word wrap and font.
Word wrap: -
Using word wrap command, you can adjust the typed text equal to the window size
of notepad.
Font: -
Font, font size and font style can be set through the Font command.
View: -
There is a command in the View menu, the status bar. Use this command to hide
and show the status bar.

Esc: - You
can close the dialog box opened by Esc.
Ctrl+ (+ or -): - You
can make the text smaller or bigger.
Ctrl + I: - A
Tab space can be given by Ctrl + I.
Ctrl + J, Ctrl + M: - Line
break can be done by Ctrl+J, Ctrl+m.
Ctrl+shift+N: - You
can open a new file on a new window.
